2. Realizing that I had been lying to myself about wanting to be an English teacher rather than a journalist sent me into a mess of tears too. My opinion on realizing what you want to do in life is that the promise and idealism of it all outweighs everything that is scary about it.
3. Costa Rica was one of the best trips I've ever been on. Jumping off 45 foot waterfalls is a must in life. So is hiking through a rainforest, spelunking, swimming in the ocean in the pitchblack of night, literally flying over the jungle, drinking sugar cane moonshine that tastes like nitro glycerine, getting an eye infection from hostle sheets, eating beans and rice everyday, and hanging out with your best friends for a week is totally awesome.
4. Having a great story about dating an OB surfer who will forever be called Penis Man, that no one gets tired of laughing about, is a great souvenir to come away with.
5. New surfboards can make a world of difference.
6. Teaching swim lessons for the last time is the best thing ever, but the pay is terribly missed.
7. It was the year I finally read a book that rivaled A Prayer For Owen Meany. The World According to Garp, is right up there with my favorite books. Any book that can make the reader see infidelity to a spouse in a completely light is one of a kind. The writing and the story is unforgetable.
8. Moving out of the house for reals and paying rent and utilities is possibly one of the most grown up things I did all year, and quite possibly ever.
9. Buying my first and probably only pair of designer jeans was quite enjoyable.
10. Having your ears completely clogged to the point where you can't tell if someone is talking to you unless they are making eye contact with you, for a month, sucks.
11. Summers, and the ocean water during the summer months, should never be that cold.
12. Learning that missing someone to the point where you are sick to your stomach is really not fun, but also realizing that just means that you one time got to love someone that much too.
13. Gaining back the ability to watch t.v. without feeling guilty is harmonious to my soul. Also, I'm really happy that I rediscovered friends. If none of the roommates are home, or I've had a bad day, I just pop that DVD in and whoila instant companionship right in the conforts of my living room.
14. A great year merely because Josh Ritter put out new album. However, not a great year becasue I missed him playing the Belly-Up Tavern because I had to go back home for a mandatory work meeting. Opinion on mandatory Swimventure meetings: this company is still completely unorganized despite the work meetings.
15. Finally taking more time to surf has done nothing good for my shoulders, but helps my spirit, at least it does when I get a good wave and don't completely eat it on the drop in.
16. Discovering how many good movies are at the library to check out for free made me so happy.
17. Being able to Google myself and find stuff I have written is still mind-blowing, but a great part of my 22nd year.
18. Moving 5 blocks from Balboa Park was one of my smartest moves, even if the place doesn't have a dishwasher.
19. Working in food service is awful!
20. Throwing up for the first time in 11 years and fainting for the first time are never two body ailments that should happen in the same year.
21. Having to drive on the free way everyday to work isn't as bad as I always thought it would be.
22. It has been a year of ups and downs, highs and lows. It's been pivotal and harshly blunt. It was the last year of maybe not the best, but the most crucial yet carefree years I will ever know.
